Laura Trayhurn has recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music where she studied under the tutelage of Julie Kennard and Jonathan Papp, with a distinction in Postgraduate Performance, gaining a coveted DipRAM for an outstanding final recital and winning the Henry Cummings prize for singing. Also a music graduate and former choral scholar of King’s College London, Laura has a repertoire that spans a wide range of musical periods and styles. Recitals have included arias from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and La Clemenza di Tito, Walton’s The Bear, Bellini’s Tre Ariette, Britten’s A Charm of Lullabies, and a selection of songs by Mahler and the Spanish composer Montsalvatge.
During her time at the Royal Academy, Laura has participated in many masterclasses, notably with the countertenor James Bowman, who provided expert advice on her interpretation of the alto arias in Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and acclaimed soprano Diane Forlano who coached her on her performance of Mahler’s Urlicht. She has also performed in a number of opera scenes, taking the roles of Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte, 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflote, Hedwige in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell, and Charmian in Barber’s Anthony and Cleopatra.
